Chicken Coop

How I built my chicken coop (Step by Step)
Dates and ATL's

Step 1

My questions before I built the coop:

- Do I have enough space for the coop ?

- How many chickens do I want ?

- How much space do they need ?

- What is my budget for the material ?

- What are my measurements ?

- Can I transport my material ?

- Where can I buy the material ?

Step 2

For the draft I used SketchUp, because I learned how to use it properly in design class. It helped me to visualise the coop and to have a clearer goal of my product.

This video was my guideline for the chicken house. I made my own measurements, but I used the basics from this video. It really helped me !

My Measurements :
 - 4x big wood wall 92cmx160cm ( 0,5 cm thick)
 - 4x wood beams 6cmx6xmx180cm
 - wood piles (for the floor) 120cmx92cm
 - 2x wood piles ~65cmx120cm (ceiling)
 - wood bars 4cmx3cmx1436cm
 - grid 60cmx100cm
 - door lock 2x (small door and big door)
 - about 120 screws
 - 140cmx140cm waterproof roof material

Step 3

Step 4

Cut the material into the right sizes
Build the frame by attaching the wood walls to the frame with screws

Step 5

Attach the ceiling, some more wood piles for stability and the wire

Step 6

Built a waterproof roof, the floor and the door frame

Step 7

To show my thinking skills I cut a bamboo stick in half and used it for the ceiling to make the top waterproof since I already used my budget. (We

have a little bamboo forest next to our house so the bamboo is free)

Combine parts in new ways by systemic thinking :

I made my own measurements of the chicken coop to make it fit to my own plans and the number of chickens I planned to get.

Evaluate solutions to problems :

I used the material that was meant for the door for the ceiling so I had to find something different for the door. I asked my grandfather if he has an idea and he gave me some material he didn't need anymore. It fits perfectly !

I made those questions to make a detailed plan to know what to prepare for my chicken coop.

I compared the prices and the material at different home centres to complete my project within my budget.

Thinking
Make decisions based on chosen criteria, standards and conditions :

I attached more wood piles for more stability incase of bad weather conditions.

Process data and report results :

I used the video (step 2) to make myself an action plan for the chicken coop.

Self-Management

Keep to class schedules and project deadlines :

My goal for the chicken coop is to finish it in May and June to be able to get the chickens as early as possible in the summer break to have enough time to care for them.

Set appropriate and manageable goals :
